The full name of King George VI (1895-1952) was Albert Fredrick Arthur George, hence his first name was Albert. Before becoming King of England, he was called Prince Albert, Duke of York from 1920 to 1936.

The reason for the name change is that Queen Victoria (1819-1901) wished that no future King be called Albert, the name of her late husband, Prince Albert (1819-1861), whose full name was Franz Albrecht August Karl Emanuel, Prinz Von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha.
